Sands China Ltd is planning to invest at least US$2.5 billion (MOP20 billion) in the construction of a new casino resort on Cotai, to be located beside Four Seasons, in the so-called parcel 3. The company chairman Sheldon Adelson said this morning that construction is set to begin in 60 days. The project, to be named “The Parisian”, will include 3,000 hotel rooms and have an Eiffel Tower replica, as previously reported by our sister publication Business Daily. Earlier this year, Sands China received a government extension of the deadline for the completion of the development of parcel three. The government authorised the extension of the construction period until April 2016. The original deadline was April next year. Mr Adelson was talking at a press briefing ahead of this afternoon’s opening of the second phase of Sands China’s Cotai Central. The gaming operator is promising “a massive pyrotechnic display”, to kick off at 6:15 pm. In addition, commemorative golden coins will be given away to the first 5,000 visitors to the property. Sands Cotai Central’s second phase features the opening of the world’s largest Sheraton hotel, along with new restaurants, a Polynesian-themed casino and additional space for meetings and conventions. The property’s retail offering will also double, with 38 new retailers.
